How to read barcodes and QR Codes from loyalty cards on phones using 2D Scanners ?
To scan barcodes from loyalty cards on mobile phones, it is recommended to use 2D imaging barcode scanners. While there are many brands and models on the market, each type of scanner has limitations regarding the types of barcodes it can read.
Laser scanners, despite their attractive price, are not suitable for scanning barcodes on mobile phone screens. This is because laser scanners emit light that needs to be reflected to read the barcode, and phone screens, equipped with anti-reflective technologies, do not reliably reflect this light.
Therefore, 2D imaging scanners are recommended for this task as they can scan barcodes directly from the LCD screens of mobile phones.
Differences Between 1D and 2D Barcodes
1D Barcodes :
Description : 1D barcodes are represented by a series of parallel black bars and a series of numbers.
Data Capacity : They contain a small amount of data, usually between 20 and 25 characters.
Advantages :
- Cheaper than 2D scanners.
- Faster with a longer detection range.
- Ambient lighting does not affect reading.
2D Barcodes:
Description : 2D barcodes represent data in a matrix of contrasting cells, capable of holding information both vertically and horizontally.
Data Capacity : They can store much more information, with Datamatrix codes able to hold up to 2000 characters or more.
Advantages :
- Can be scanned in all directions, making scanning faster and more efficient.
- Able to link to websites and web pages.
- All information can be gathered in a single scan.
